The city tour of Ulaanbaatar takes you to some of the principal sites of this city of Ulaanbaatar. You will visit National History Museum, Chinggis Square (main square) and Gandan Monastery. Welcome lunch at local restaurant. In the afternoon, we will have an excursion to the Giant Genghis Statue complex located in Tsonjin Boldog. Return to Ulaanbaatar in the evening, Free time for dinner. Overnight stay at Holiday Inn.
This morning, we will commence our day with a local flight to Dalanzadgad, the bustling Gobi town. Our journey continues by road through the stunning Gobi Gurvan Saikhan, the easternmost end of the Altai Mountains. Here, we’ll relish the opportunity for a hiking adventure in the breathtaking Yoliin Am Gorge, situated within the Gurvan Saikhan National Park. If luck is on our side, we may even have the chance to spot some local wildlife. Our exploration will also take us to the local natural museum in the area before we transfer to a comfortable ger lodge. After dinner, we will travel to Moltsog sand dunes and enjoy 1 hour trekking on and around dunes under the starry sky. Return to our camp and overnight Gobi Mirage Lodge.
The morning is yours to enjoy at your leisure, with no scheduled activities. After a satisfying lunch at the ger camp, our journey takes us to the Khavtsgait Petroglyph, nestled within the Dund Saikhan Mountain. Here, we embark on a trek to the mountain, where a captivating natural gallery of rock paintings from the Bronze Age awaits. Continuing our northern journey, we head towards the renowned Bayanzag, also known as the Flaming Cliffs. Upon arrival, we’ll visit the information center, which features informative exhibits and a brief documentary to enhance your understanding of the area. Then, immerse yourself in the wilderness and explore the unique natural formations as you hike along a designated trail. As the day draws to a close, we’ll return to our camp in the evening, where a delicious dinner awaits, followed by a comfortable overnight stay Gobi Mirage Lodge.
This morning, our journey leads us through the vast Gobi steppes as we head north towards the Ongi Monastery ruins, situated by the Ongi River. These remarkable ruins have a rich history dating back to the 18th century, and we’ll have the opportunity to explore them. Our day also includes a visit to view ancient rock paintings, providing a glimpse into Mongolia’s historical heritage. Following these enriching experiences, we’ll transfer to a cozy ger camp where you’ll be treated to full-board accommodations. Additionally, for those interested, there’s the option to enjoy a relaxing sauna at the ger camp, with the facility accommodating up to 4 people at the same time. Following a hearty breakfast, we set out on a journey to the ancient capital of Karakorum, nestled within the historically significant Orkhon Valley, designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. En route, we’ll make a stop at a nomadic family’s dwelling, affording you the chance to connect with the locals and gain insight into their unique way of life. Lunch will be a special experience, enjoyed in the comfort of a traditional family ger. As the day progresses, we’ll arrive in Karakorum in the late afternoon. Here, we’ll delve into the rich history of the region with a visit to the newly established Museum of Karakorum, providing a comprehensive introduction to Central Mongolia and its storied past. In the morning, we visit Erdenezuu Monastery, the first Buddhist Monastery in the central Mongolia that was founded in 16th century. Afterwards, we continue our journey to the center of Arkhangai province, Tsetserleg town. This settlement has more than 300 years history since Zayiin Gegeen Monastery was first established in 1680. Upon arrival in Tsetserleg, check in at our hotel. Lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, we visit Zayiin Gegeen Monastery and its Guden Temple where we will see the mummified body of First Zaya Bandita, a founder of the monastery. Afterwards, we will visit the town Bazaar, where residents in town and nomads come and get their supplies. Dinner at the local restaurant, overnight at the Ashid Bekhi hotel.
Today’s journey leads you into the volcanic landscape surrounding Lake Terkhiin Tsagaan, often referred to as the ‘Great White Lake.’ This tranquil lake rests serenely amidst towering hills, its waters exceptionally clear and bordered by expansive sandy beaches. The road meanders along the lake’s shore, passing by shamanic stacks of black lava before veering briefly inland toward the Khorgo Volcano. Khorgo, reaching an elevation of around 10,000 feet, is now dormant but continues to hold deep significance for the local nomadic communities. A brief hike takes you to the crater’s rim, where you’ll encounter red-stained rock walls descending into a profound chasm encircled by sacred Ovoo mounds. As you gaze back towards Lake Terkhiin Tsagaan, a stunning vista unfolds through a small hill pass, offering a splendid view of the lake and its surroundings. Overnight stay at Maikhan Tolgoi ger camp.
Our day begins with the checkout from our camp as we set out for Tsagaan Sum Hot Springs. Along the way, we’ll pause for a lunch break by the picturesque Tamir River valley, indulging in a delightful meal at the ger camp. We visit to the historic Taikhar rock, adorned with over 150 inscriptions in various languages, including Turkic, Uyghur, Mongolian, Tibetan, Manchu, and Chinese. You’ll even have the opportunity to try yak riding in this scenic area. In the afternoon, we’ll travel for approximately 2 hours, passing through Tsetserleg, and finally arriving at our resort nestled by the soothing hot springs. After settling at the resort, enjoy 2-hour horseback riding in the beautiful mountain valley. Later in the day, you can unwind and rejuvenate as you relax in the pools filled with natural curative hot springs, ensuring a tranquil and restorative experience. Overnight stay at Jaran Tsagaan resort.
Today’s journey leads us to the renowned Hustai National Park, a sanctuary for the endangered Takhi wild horses. The drive will span approximately 5-6 hours, with the possibility of a lunch stop along the route to refuel. Upon reaching Hustai, we’ll check in at our comfortable gers. Our exploration begins at the information center and conference room, where we’ll watch a brief introductory documentary about Hustai National Park. Following this informative session, we’ll embark on an excursion into the park itself, providing us with the opportunity to observe the last wild horse species, the Przewalski horse, also known as the Takhi, as they roam freely in their natural habitat. Overnight stay at Hustai resort.
After breakfast, we’ll head to the Mongol Nomadic Camp for a captivating ‘nomadic show’ that highlights the customs of traditional Mongolian nomads, including their seasonal moves, milking livestock, and dairy product production. After the show, we’ll have lunch at the ger camp and depart to Ulaanbaatar. Upon arrival, check in at the hotel.
Optional souvenir and cashmere shopping in the afternoon. Enjoy traditional folklore concert by the magical Tumen Ekh ensemble in the evening. Dinner own arrangements. Overnight stay at Holiday Inn.
